Belleville is the largest city on the Bay of Quinte, about 55,000 people, with the Moira River running through a historic downtown. It has the region's main hospital, Loyalist College, a VIA Rail station and plenty of shopping, while still being 20 minutes from Trenton and 30 from Picton.

Buyers who want city amenities at small-city prices: healthcare workers at Belleville General Hospital (Quinte Health's largest site), Loyalist College staff and students, commuters who take the train, and anyone who wants restaurants, the waterfront trail and shopping close to home.
Public schools are run by the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board and Catholic schools by the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, with French-language options as well. Loyalist College sits on the Belleville–Quinte West border.
Belleville sits on Highway 401, with Highway 62 heading north and south into Prince Edward County. The VIA Rail station on Station Street has daily trains toward Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Trenton is about 20 minutes west.
Belleville is popular with families, retirees and commuters because it combines a hospital, a college, a VIA Rail station and big-city shopping with home prices well below the GTA. Like any city, neighbourhoods vary, so it's worth touring a few with someone local before you choose.
Belleville has more amenities, the hospital, the college and the train station. Trenton (Quinte West) is closer to 8 Wing, often a little quieter, and offers similar prices. They're only about 20 minutes apart, and many families work in one and live in the other.
