Got your posting message for 8 Wing Trenton? CFB Trenton is Canada's largest air force base and the hub of the RCAF's air mobility fleet, in the heart of Quinte West. Here's what to know about house hunting, the relocation program and where to live, and how I help military families make the move without the stress.

How the relocation program works

Canadian Armed Forces moves are administered through the Integrated Relocation Program (IRP), currently delivered by Sirva (formerly Brookfield Global Relocation Services, BGRS). Once you have your posting message, you register with Sirva and complete a preliminary relocation assessment. You can generally choose a house hunting trip (HHT) or a destination inspection trip, not both, and the professionals you hire, including your REALTOR®, lawyer and home inspector, must be at arm's length from you. Benefit limits change, so confirm the details with your Sirva counsellor and the current CAF Relocation Directive.

Making your house hunting trip count

An HHT is short, so the work starts before you land. I'll set you up with listing alerts the day you're posted, preview homes by video so you don't waste a showing, line up a mortgage pre-approval, an inspector and a lawyer, and plan a realistic schedule for your trip, so you can go home with an accepted offer and a closing date that matches your move.

Renting or buying?

Buying often makes sense if you expect to be posted here for a few years or want to build equity. I'll help you compare the numbers honestly, including what selling at the end of the posting would look like.

Where military families live

  • Trenton: closest to the base, with established neighbourhoods and the shortest commute.
  • Bayside & Belleville: about 15–20 minutes east, with more amenities, the hospital and the VIA Rail station.
  • Frankford & Batawa: north of Trenton, for more space and a village feel.
  • Brighton: about 20 minutes west along the 401.
  • Carrying Place & Prince Edward County: to the south, for waterfront and rural living.

Moving to 8 Wing: questions

Does the military pay realtor fees when I buy?

In Ontario the buyer's agent is usually paid from the sale proceeds by the seller, so buying with me typically costs you nothing directly. When you sell your home because of a posting, the IRP generally reimburses eligible real estate commission. Confirm your entitlements with your Sirva counsellor.

What are the best neighbourhoods near CFB Trenton?

Trenton itself has the shortest commute. Bayside and Belleville are 15–20 minutes away with more amenities, Frankford and Batawa offer more space, and Brighton is about 20 minutes west along the 401.

How far is CFB Trenton from Toronto?

About 175 km east of Toronto, roughly 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours by car along Highway 401.

Who runs CAF relocations now?

The Integrated Relocation Program is currently delivered by Sirva, formerly known as Brookfield Global Relocation Services (BGRS).
