When buyers walk through your home, you want them thinking about the house.
You don’t want their attention pulled away by personal information, family schedules, paperwork or anything else that reminds them they’re walking through someone else’s very personal space.
I was at a showing last night where there was quite a bit of personal information visible in the kitchen, including a family calendar and personal photos.
To each their own when it comes to what you choose to display in your home, but once you’re preparing to sell, I always encourage my sellers to take a second look at what’s left out.
Calendars, mail, paperwork, children’s information, appointment details and other personal items can reveal more about your family than you realize.
And this isn’t about making your house feel sterile or like nobody lives there.
It’s about remembering that when you’re selling, the house should be the star of the show.
It’s one small part of preparing a home for sale, but it’s one I don’t want my sellers to overlook.
Your buyers are there to see the house. Let’s make sure that’s what they’re seeing.
And when you’re in that stage of wondering “Does this stay, or does this go?”, that’s where I come in. Part of my job is being a resource and a coach through the preparation process, helping you figure out what actually matters before you spend your time or money getting your home ready.
We’re on week two of our September series where we’re going back to the basics of getting ready to move, whether that’s something you’re planning now or somewhere down the road. Hope you’ll stick around!
Until next time,
